Role Overview
Alloyed is seeking a talented new product introduction (NPI) Engineer to join our team and drive the development of additive manufacturing components. This role combines technical expertise in manufacturing processes, product design, simulation engineering, and project management to deliver innovative solutions for our clients. You'll work at the forefront of AM technology, optimizing designs from concept through production while ensuring the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
New Product Introduction
AM Process Optimization: Develop optimal build orientations, design support strategies, and build layouts to maximize efficiency and quality of AM components
Design for Manufacturing: Implement DfM principles including adding machining stock for CNC operations, chemical milling allowances, and comprehensive fixturing strategies
Precision Engineering: Apply distortion compensation algorithms to increase accuracy of AM components
Surface Treatment Development: Coordinate with manufacturing development function to optimize post-processing workflows to achieve required surface finishes and meet GD&T specifications
CNC Integration: Design precision fixtures and collaborate with internal CNC function and external CNC suppliers to ensure optimal product dimensional accuracy. Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on production feedback and coordinate metrology integration
Metrology Systems: Develop comprehensive measurement strategies using GOM, CMM, Alicona, OGP, and CT scanning technologies. Define metrology routine specifications and develop fixtures while analysing and reporting critical dimensional data. Coordinate with metrology engineering to ensure metrology programs meet the requirements
Technical Documentation and Drawings: Produce detailed 2D engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications. Interpret customer drawings and specifications
Production Support: Provide hands-on technical support to manufacturing and operations teams as needed.
Project Management
Stakeholder Communication: Document and report results to key internal and external stakeholders
Client Relationship Management: Manage external client relationships and coordinate with group companies
Supply Chain Coordination: Oversee outsourcing suppliers and contractors to ensure project delivery
Business Development: Support proposal development and business development activities
Cost Management: Contribute to NPI costing activities and projections
Essential skills
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline
Experience in design engineering or NPI roles, preferably in manufacturing environments
Proficiency in CAD/CAE software packages
Experience with statistical analysis tools for large dataset interpretation
Strong understanding of GD&T principles and ability to create/interpret complex technical drawings
Knowledge of quality control principles, lean manufacturing methodologies, and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Strong documentation and reporting capabilities
Detail-oriented approach with structured problem-solving methodology
Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams within fast-paced, dynamic environments
Desired skills
Previous hands-on manufacturing experience in aerospace, automotive, or advanced manufacturing industries
Experience with Rhino/Grasshopper for parametric design and optimization
Knowledge of additive manufacturing processes and post-processing techniques
Familiarity with advanced metrology and inspection techniques
Experience with simulation software (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, etc.)
