Graduate Materials Engineer
Be part of a team redefining what’s possible in materials and manufacturing, developing novel alloys and next-generation 3D-printed components for the technologies of the future.
Company Overview
Alloyed is a young venture-funded company built with world-class metallurgists, mechanical engineers, technicians, and software developers. Operating from our HQ in the UK but also globally, we are building the future of advanced metal components. Our innovative approach integrates proprietary software that combines advanced machine learning and physical modelling with extensive experimental facilities, enabling us to 3D print metal components more efficiently and effectively than anyone else.
Our facilities in Yarnton and Abingdon, near Oxford, are dedicated to establishing the world’s fastest, smartest, and best-equipped environment for the rapid development of additively manufactured parts and the creation of novel metal alloys for enhanced performance.
We serve a variety of sectors including electronics, aerospace, and industrial by leveraging our cutting-edge technology to build businesses across diverse markets, each with unique requirements, timelines, customers, and cultures.
This vacancy is for candidates looking to start a new role in Autumn 2026.
Role Overview
Materials science sits at the heart of everything we do. Alloyed materials engineers invent new alloys, develop advanced manufacturing processes, solve qualification challenges, and help bring entirely new products into production. We're looking for curious, ambitious engineers who enjoy tackling difficult technical problems and want to push the limits of what metals can do.
As a graduate materials engineer, you'll work across Alloyed's divisions, taking ownership of real engineering challenges from day one. You'll collaborate with materials, manufacturing, software and mechanical engineers to develop new materials and manufacturing technologies for some of the world's most demanding applications.
What You'll Do
You could be involved in projects such as:
Designing a new printable nickel superalloy for high-temperature turbine components, taking it from computational alloy design through laboratory development and full-scale component testing.
Qualifying flight-critical aerospace hardware, generating the material and process data required to support certification and production release.
Solving manufacturing challenges such as cracking, porosity or distortion in metal additive manufacturing processes through experimentation, data analysis and process development.
Over two years you will rotate across Alloyed’s teams:
Innovation Services: Work directly with customers to develop, optimise and qualify materials and manufacturing processes for demanding aerospace, defence, energy and industrial applications.
Core Technology: Alloyed's internal research and technology hub, focused on creating the new alloys, manufacturing methods, digital tools and intellectual property that will power the company's future products and capabilities.
Argive: Develop complete microturbine engine systems, using additive manufacturing and materials science to solve challenging engineering problems under ambitious timelines and customer expectations.
Component Engineering: Design, manufacture and validate production-ready components, turning material and process innovations into high-performance hardware for customer applications.
Responsibilities
Rapid, iterative, application-driven development of novel alloys, and application of pre-existing alloys to novel commercial use-cases.
Optimisation of AM processing parameters, both for application-specific use cases and broader usage.
Application of materials understanding to additive manufacturing of new alloys and systems, to build Alloyed’s world-leading portfolio of processable materials.
Communication with customers and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of services and products, including reporting and presentation of complex technical content in a digestible manner.
Essential skills
Strong technical background with a degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy (or similar)
Strong intuition for metallurgical mechanisms, applicable across a range of alloy systems.
Excellent problem-solving ability and the capability of converting complex data into actions with practical solutions. Adaptable, organised, and able to prioritise multiple workstreams.
Motivation to undertake practical work to ensure timely delivery of results.
Desired skills
Knowledge or experience of one or more of the following industries: aerospace, automotive, robotics or consumer electronics.
Good familiarity with one or more engineering alloy systems, such as nickel, aluminium, magnesium, iron, titanium, copper, platinum, or lightweight high entropy alloys
Experience with high-level programming languages such as Python and MATLAB.
Knowledge of a wide variety of manufacturing methods (casting, forging, etc.)
Knowledge and understanding of metal AM processes.
Experience in materials modelling e.g. CALPHAD, DFT, atomistic simulation.
Closing date for applications will be Sunday 9th August 2026.
Starting Salary: £42,000 per annum
