Graduate Controls Engineer
Launch your engineering career, designing, testing, and optimising microturbine control systems while working hands-on with cutting-edge hardware, firmware, and manufacturing teams.
Company Overview
Alloyed is a young venture-funded company built with world-class metallurgists, mechanical engineers, technicians, and software developers. Operating from our HQ in the UK but also globally, we are building the future of advanced metal components. Our innovative approach integrates proprietary software that combines advanced machine learning and physical modelling with extensive experimental facilities, enabling us to 3D print metal components more efficiently and effectively than anyone else.
Our facilities in Yarnton and Abingdon, near Oxford, are dedicated to establishing the world’s fastest, smartest, and best-equipped environment for the rapid development of additively manufactured parts and the creation of novel metal alloys for enhanced performance.
We serve a variety of sectors including electronics, aerospace, and industrial by leveraging our cutting-edge technology to build businesses across diverse markets, each with unique requirements, timelines, customers, and cultures.
This vacancy is for candidates looking to start a new role in Autumn 2026.
Role Overview
Argive, a division of Alloyed, is currently designing microturbine engines for jet propulsion applications. The system architecture is simple and scalable, with outer diameters ranging from 60-240mm. Argive’s development programme uses advanced manufacturing to increase performance compared to current state-of-the-art, leveraging complex designs and applying Alloyed’s suite of high-temperature materials. Additionally, the engines have a drastically reduced part count, low production cost and can be readily manufactured at scale.
Argive is seeking motivated engineers to support the design & prototyping of microturbine control systems across both hardware and firmware. This role involves close collaboration with mechanical design and experimental teams to validate and improve the control systems, and you will play a key role in the development and optimisation process. The role will cover all aspects of the engine control system; from design all the way through to testing.
You will be based at Alloyed’s site in Yarnton, north of Oxford. A highly competitive remuneration package is offered, including equity incentives.
Responsibilities
Develop hardware and firmware solutions for the control of microturbines, including component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, firmware development.
Select and integrate new ancillaries for engine operation, coordinating their mechanical integration with the design team.
Assist with the testing of new controls features, both at our on-site test facilities and off site with customers.
Assist with the integration of the controls system into complex and varied flight systems.
Support engineering reviews within the controls team, maintaining high standards of clarity and accuracy.
Investigating and root-causing failures and defects, ranging from non-conforming components to system controls failures.
Work within a young, fast paced, agile development team in collaboration with other engineers and technicians.
Work collaboratively to solve complex problems with innovative solutions.
Essential skills
Degree in Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering or similar relevant subject.
Experience of projects involving embedded systems.
Understanding of software design patterns, best practices and principles.
Excellent problem-solving ability and capability to convert complex problems into actions with practical solutions.
Adaptable, organised, and able to prioritise multiple workstreams.
Willingness to get hands on with manufacturing and testing processes.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
Desired Skills
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout, harness design.
Proficient in the use of C or C++.
Familiarity with:
- STM32 based platforms.
- RTOS implementations on these platforms.
- CAN implementations.
- Electric motor and DC power conversion design.
A basic understanding of turbomachinery including operating principles and control variables.
Practical controls prototyping skills: soldering, crimping etc.
Closing date for applications will be Sunday 9th August 2026.
Starting Salary: £42,000 per annum
